Asian Championship: AL-Riyadi scores its fourth win and this time Rayyan from Qatar was the victim
Written by Mohamad Yatim - Published: May 12, 2008

Al-Rayyan al Qatari was Riyadi’s fourth victim in this 19th version of FIBA Asian Championship that is taking place in Kuwait. Riyadi who is determined to clinch the title of Asia for the first time in its history, is proving one game after another that it is the best team in Asia and the Arab world, despite the latest bumps in the Pan Arab cup. Riyadi’s three-point weapon in this game was mastered by Riyadi’s Ali Mahmoud who chosen MVP of the game with 23 pts, after sinking 6 shots from behind the arc. All in all, Riyadi succeeded in scoring 18 three-points from 40 attempts! The champions of Lebanon started the game slow and needed to fine tune their defense after first quarter ended (20-20), but thanks to a very well organized player rotation by Fouad Abou Chakra, the team quickly held a strong grip over the game thanks to the one-after-another three pointers signed by Ali Mahmoud, Ismail Ahmad, Fadi Al-Khatib, and Omar Turk, who ended the first half with their team in the lead (49-37).

Asian Championship: Riyadi outplays Zain and scores one sweet revenge
Written by Mohamad Yatim - Published: May 10, 2008

The Champion of Lebanon, Riyadi, enjoyed a sweet revenge over Zain from Jordan, scoring its third win in a row in the Asian Championship. Riyadi continued to show a very strong performance in the tournament, keeping in mind that the players are entering the court under a lot of pressure due to the unstable political situation in Lebanon. A fan cannot but admire the commitment of Riyadi players to show a good image of Lebanon within the Asian Tournament, which by itself is a very hard task to demand from players and ask them to concentrate on basketball, while their families and friends are facing a very critical political situation in their beloved home country. Riyadi’s win over Zain today was, by no chance, a very sweet victory, as the Yellow Giant dominated the game throughout the 40 minutes, despite some pressure in the fourth quarter, but in general, Riyadi’s level was much higher than that of Zain and such a defeat to the Jordanians did not surprise the fans that filled the court to support their team, and were the fruit of the win.
